Three Nut Baklava Recipe
September 8, 2008The sweetest part of Mediterranean food is definitely baklava. I’ve always wanted to learn how to make this yummy treat, and I was delighted with the outcome. This baklava recipe is really easy to make, and the results are irresistible. This flaky dessert gets it’s unique look from phyllo dough, which is a paper thin dough that when baked looks flaky like a croissant, and has a unique and delicate crisp to it. You can find the dough in the freezer section of most grocery stores. The sweetness comes mostly from the honey, and the nuts provide a nice crunch to every bite. This is a fun and easy dessert to show off to your friends and family.

Three Nut Baklava
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup all natural butter, melted
- 8 ounce organic phyllo dough (if you’re feeling spunky you can try organic whole wheat phyllo dough)
- 1/3 cup organic sugar
- 2 cups walnuts, finely chopped (I did this by hand, but you can pulse these in your food processor too)
- 1/4 cup pecans, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup almonds, finely chopped
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
Orange Blossom Honey syrup
- 2/3 cups orange blossom honey
- 1/3 cups water
- 2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees
- In a mixing bowl, combine nuts, sugar, cinnamon, and cloves, mix together
- In a baking pan, brush the pan lightly with melted butter, layer one sheet of phyllo dough in baking pan and brush lightly with melted butter, repeat this step with phyllo dough sheets 4 times (if phyllo sheet is large then cut in half and layer accordingly).
- Next, evenly spread nut mixture on top of phyllo dough, then layer remaining phyllo dough sheets, brushing each one with melted butter
- Before placing in oven, use a sharp knife to cut the baklava into triangles, then place pan in oven and bake for 10 minutes
- Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake for another 15 minutes or until it is a nice golden brown. To prepare orange blossom honey syrup, pour honey, water, and lemon juice in a small sauce pan and boil for five minutes. When baklava is done baking, evenly pour syrup over baklava.
- Let cool, and enjoy
- Makes about 20-30 baklava
