I made this over the weekend. I got inspired by a good friend who runs a cosmetic testing lab. He guest posted last week with some good tips on choosing the right ingredients for homemade cosmetics. This amazing lip balm became the bi-product of that post.
I’m telling you, this balm is quite impressive. I’m hooked. It’s silky smooth and feels so nourishing on your lips. Lightly scented with lavender oil and just the right amount of olive and vitamin E oil to feed your lips right.
Best part is most of the ingredients you probably already have in your home. The only thing I had to buy were the empty containers and organic beeswax, but that was no biggie.
I’m taking these little tubs of balm with to a wedding I’m helping out with next week in Trinidad, California. I’m tossing these into mini swag bags for the wedding party. They make great gifts – I mean who doesn’t love a great lip balm? And since there is no tint to this balm it’s totally gender neutral! Mark already gave me his approval as I slathered a layer on his puckered lips;)
Lavender Honey Lip Balm Recipe – Makes 12 – 1/4 ounce lip balm containers
Adapted from www.crunchybetty.com
1 tablespoon grated organic beeswax or beeswax pearls
4 tablespoons olive oil (almond oil or jojoba oil can be substituted for this)
1 teaspoon honey
1/4 teaspoon vitamin E oil (capsules can be used for this, just squeeze out the oil)
3-4 drops of lavender essential oil
Warm beeswax, olive oil, and vitamin E oil in a double boiler until beeswax has completely melted. Pour in honey and lavender oil and stir until well incorporated. Spoon liquid lip balm into empty containers and let set for 3 hours.
