Cork Succulent

My good friend and crafting buddy, Monica, graciously offered to contribute a few guest posts this month while we adjust to baby #2. She’s a lawyer by day, craft extraordinaire by night. She’s the whole package people. Post and photo cred go to her.

I was searching for a quick idea for small Valentine’s gifts for my co-workers with items I already had around the house.  I have often seen these done as little fridge magnets but thought they would make adorable Valentine’s Day treats.

Here’s what you’ll need.
Wine or Champagne corks
X-Acto knife
Potting Soil
Succulent clippings
*Optional – small magnet for back

Mark the cork with the marker to outline where you will be cutting.

Carefully begin using the X-Acto knife to cut away the center of the cork.  This part takes a bit of elbow grease!  Use the end of the scissors intermittently to core out the cork.  Be patient and watch your fingers!

Once the cork is hollowed out to your satisfaction, fill the cork with potting soil and put your succulent clipping in the center.

Careful not to over water since succulents like dry conditions and the cork will not drain.
