My obsession with pom poms started a few years ago when I decided to put them on top of presents. I’ve been seeing them more lately, mostly in the home decor arena. Pillows, throw blankets, curtains, kitchen towels – all covered in pom poms. Sometimes I almost can’t handle the cuteness. That’s when I knew I needed to bring pom poms back into my life – insert these DIY Pom Pom placemats and table runner. There’s no sewing involved and I don’t think this DIY can get any easier. It’s an updated, playful look of an old classic.
Next project, pillowcases and throw pillows lined with these cuties.
I found some inexpensive pom pom ribbon at a last-chance style fabric store for .49 cents a yard (I totally did a happy dance when I scored that deal), table runner for under $10 at Ikea, placemats on sale for a few dollars at Cost Plus. I kept it clean looking with solid, neutral colors with the runner and placemats but you can shuz it up with a patterned number if you’re feeling wild.
Squeeze a line of fabric glue along the border you would like the pom pom ribbon to go.
Carefully place pom pom ribbon along the glue line, pressing down as you go, to ensure the best adhesion. Trim off excess pom pom ribbon and allow to air dry.
