Ever been to a kid’s birthday party? The past two for me have been for little girls, one being my niece’s second birthday party. Both were Dora themed. Dora the Explorer has some hold on little girls – they love her. It makes for cute party decorations.
I talked to my sister about making something special for Luna’s birthday party and we ended up at cupcakes. Dora cupcakes. I made my go-to chocolate cake and topped them off with a coconut cream cheese frosting, in the color scheme of the party – hot pink and purple.
The actual cupcake toppers were what brought these “Dora” themed cupcakes together. And better yet, they were easy to put together.
Stickers and toothpicks. That’s all you need. And of course you are not limited to make “Dora” toothpicks – substitute with any birthday party theme.
Whether it’s Cinderella, Toy Story, Yo Gabba Gabba, Elmo – I’m totally guessing on what is popular with kids here…
You can even make this for a bridal shower, baby shower, or even holiday parties. Use dainty floral stickers for bridal showers, baby-themed stickers for baby showers, or holiday-themed stickers for holiday gatherings. The options are endless for topping your cupcakes.
I found some foam stickers at a craft store and selected the colors that went with the party scheme. Then I found a Dora the Explorer scrap-booking sticker. You can find just about any cartoon character sticker in the scrap-booking aisle at your craft store. Guaranteed. It pulled the entire look together, showcasing the main character, Dora, as the focal point. It was perfect and the cupcakes were delicious, too!
I found these foam stickers at a craft store for cheap. They were perfect for my cupcake toppers.
You’ll need stickers of your choice and toothpicks to get started.
I double-sided my cupcake toppers with identical stickers, making them purty on both sides.
Then there was the main sticker. Just one happy looking Dora for the top of the cupcake display.
