Fresh Homemade Peach Ice Cream Recipe

Fresh peach ice cream

I like to cook and bake with fruit that is in season, and lately, there have been a lot of peaches, cherries, and plums popping up around here at my local farmer’s markets. Since I recently received an ice cream maker for my birthday, I jumped at the idea of making fresh peach ice cream. Along with a ton of other ideas I have brewing in my head for all sorts of gelatos, sorbets, and, my favorite:  frozen yogurt. So don’t be surprised if you start to notice more and more frozen dessert treats on my website, because it’s coming like a freight train. But getting back to the ice cream, there is nothing that compares to homemade ice cream. It has an amazingly fresh taste, and it is so simple. There are basically 3 ingredients:  peaches, sugar, and cream.  It is cold, creamy and perfect for a hot summer day. This would be a fantastic topping for a peach cobbler – sounds like I have another recipe in the making before peach season is over, and that’s coming pretty soon. Enjoy!

~Depending on your ice cream maker, you might have to make this in two batches (I learned this the hard way). After mixing all of the ingredients together, pour half of it into a plastic container, and refrigerate until your first batch is done. Here is the ice cream maker I use.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1 cup organic evaporated cane sugar
  • 4 medium peaches (I used 2 white peaches and two yellow peaches, chopped, and roughly 2 1/2 cups worth)
  • Juice from one lemon (roughly two tablespoons)

Directions

In a medium sauce pan over a med-low heat, pour in heavy cream and sugar. Just heat it up until it gets luke warm (Just enough to dissolve the sugar). Pour cream and sugar into a mixing bowl and set aside. Meanwhile, chop up all of your peaches and toss into a food processor. Blend until roughly pureed (about the size of peas, smaller or larger). Squeeze one whole lemon into your peach puree (about 2 tablespoons). Mix lightly with a spoon, then pour peaches into cream and sugar. Add 1 cup of half and half (Cream and sugar mixture should be cold enough at this point with all of the add ins). Next, pour peaches and cream into your ice cream maker and turn that baby on! (depending on ice cream maker, it should be done in roughly 25-30 minutes). Serve semi-soft or for harder ice cream, freeze for a couple of hours. Enjoy!

  • If you’re having a hard time finding evaporated cane sugar, you can use regular white sugar for this recipe.

  • We made this recipe tonight and I doubled it to fit in a 4 qt ice cream churn. Only exception was I only had 4 cups of heavy whipping cream so I used 1/2 cup of 2% milk (because I had it on hand). This was the BEST ice cream I have ever had from an ice cream maker. Superb. Very creamy and thick. Great recipe!!!
