Grandma’s Apple Crisp Recipe
September 21, 2008
My grandmother used to make this all the time while I was growing up. All these years later, I still love eating the crispy sweet topping. My grandmother always had Gala apples around the house, which are great for baking, so this was the apple of choice for her famous apple crisp recipe. Whenever she had too many apples and didn’t want them to go to waste, it was a good excuse to make a delicious apple crisp. It’s such an easy and fast dish to make for a brunch or dessert. Best served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Apple crisp
Ingredients
- 3-4 medium organic apples, thinly sliced
- 1 stick of butter
- 1 cup organic brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons of whole wheat flour
- 1 cup oatmeal
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- In a 8×8 baking pan, thinly slice 5-6 slabs (2 tablespoons worth) of butter and place in pan
- Layer sliced apples, sprinkle salt and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon over apples
- Mix butter, brown sugar, flour, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and oatmeal together until it has a ‘crumbly’ consistency.
- Evenly crumble the mixture over the apples
- Bake 30-40 minutes or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender
