We’ve been pretty busy this summer and I’ve leaned on this smoothie as a quick and wholesome breakfast quite a bit. The combination is by far one of my favorites.
I like to freeze my bananas because they transform a smoothie into a thick and creamy drink. All the ingredients come together fast. This is a typical morning smoothie preparation; I grab a frozen chopped banana, some almond milk, a heaping teaspoon of almond butter, a small handful of oats and a sprinkle of toasted flax seeds, toss it all in a blender and blast away. It comes out smooth and creamy. Extra thick from the frozen bananas, and just the way I like it. The rolled oats add a nice texture and heartiness to it and flax seeds add a nice toasted touch.
This smoothie is also great with peanut butter, if you don’t have almond butter handy.
Banana Almond Oat Smoothie Recipe – I like to bag up sliced bananas and freeze them. They make preparing this smoothie quick and easy.
1 cup almond milk (I prefer thickness of Silk Almond milk, vanilla or plain)
1 frozen banana, sliced
1 tablespoon almond butter
1/2 teaspoon toasted flax seeds
1 tablespoon old fashioned oats
*Optional – soy or whey protein powder
*Optional – stevia or agave syrup, to sweeten
Place all ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
