Labor Day Recipe Ideas

Sorry for the short notice, this should have been posted a few days ago, but in lieu of posting a new recipe, and since we’re spending our Labor Day weekend picnicking and row-boating on Lake Patagonia – I decided to compile a list of great barbecue style recipes that I would make if I were grilling at home this weekend.
Below are the list of crowd pleasers!
I hope everyone has a wonderful Labor Day weekend! ~Eliza

Toasted Walnut Cole Slaw - I love this slaw. I’ve made it just to have without a barbecue gathering. I love how the toasted walnuts and pecans add a crunch and texture and how apples really sweeten this slaw and unify the dressing’s bright taste.

Broccoli Crunch Salad – I have one reader who has made this numerous times for guests (hi Janet!) and loves it! I love it too. Make this.

Three Bean Salad – I can’t wait to make this again! I almost forgot how delightful it is.
Stuffed Mushrooms – the perfect finger food.
Avocado Verde Salsa - a barbecue is not complete without chips and salsa.

Southwest Chicken – yeah, that’s what I’m talking about. Grill this.

Pan-seared Shrimp - This is great cooked in the pan or grill.

Quick Garlic Asparagus - it’s amazing and can be grilled, too. This goes well with grilled salmon, chicken, tofu – or by itself.
Chicken Tarragon Salad – A barbecue is not complete without some sort of salad. This is a good one.

Apple Granita – it’s HOT out! give your guest something to cool off with.
Blueberry Tart – I’m a dessert girl, and this is good stuff. If blueberries are not your thing, then make this with other berries, like raspberries, blackberries or strawberries! YUM!

Cantaloupe Sorbet – Wouldn’t you like something icey and smooth to end the day with on your blazing hot Labor Day weekend? Yeah, me too. This sorbet gets a little naughty with Triple Sec. Don’t give this to your kids.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake – You’ll definitely need cake – and this chocolate cake will not disappoint. Seriously – it’s so incredibly moist and chocolaty. Your guests will thank you.
Cherry Almond Pie Tart - if you happen to have a bag of cherries lying around, you can make this.
Fran’s Chewy Oatmeal Cookies – You can’t stop with just one. I can’t stop with just one.

Apple Cake - then there’s this. Decadent sinfulness on a fork. This has been in my dreams lately, probably because I haven’t had it in a long while AND my mother-in-law said she was going to make it for their Labor Day barbecue. They’re in the Bay Area, we’re in Arizona *Sigh* I took this picture when I first started my blog using my little trusty Cyber-shot. That was two years ago. It has been that long since I’ve made this, and that’s just wrong.
